Congress Pilgrimage (June 18th) 1 days
A 10 km-stretch on the St. James´ way (1 day)
Includes: Bus available, official tour guide lunch and botafumeiro (incense burner)
Bus departure at 08.30 hs from Palacio de Congresos towards Sarria and walk through St. Mayor, mandatory route for pilgrims.
We will continue to Portomarin where the church of St. Nicolás which resembles a fortress stands out. This fortress is justified by its strategic location along the Miño river and because it was destined to be both the castle of the Order of St. John as well as the church. Then we will move to Palas de Rei and Furelos river, where we will enjoy a short walk on the “od bridge” with its four arches that will lead us to the village of medieval aspect.(1st section of the road walking)
From here the bus will take us back to Melide, considered the geographical center of Galicia and with a great historial Jacobean identity. Ad We will admire the oldest stone cross in Galicia, a Gothic construction from the fourteenth century that shows the long survival of the of Maestro Mateo´s style in the area of influence of the St. James´way. Lunch.
We will start waking again once we leave the place, and we will be next to the Romanesque church of Santa Maria, a single nave and semi-circular apse, decorated on the outside with corbels and two facades (2nd section of the road walking )
The tour will take us through a beautiful green landscape and it will end in Boente, that has been a very important point in the Pilgrim route since it was already mentioned by Aymeric in his famous Codex. Its church devoted to Santiago stands out.
Again, sitting on the bus, this will take us through Arzua to Monte do Gozo, where you will be able to admire the towers of the cathedral. Then, walking, we will reach the final stage of the camino, leading us to Plaza del Obradoiro.
